AN ARTIST'S EXHIBITION May 19th - 31st 2016
‘The church at the top of the town’ is opening its doors to two artists this week to display their work. Holy Trinity Church, Skipton has given Chris Murray and Bridget Tempest the opportunity to display works from all aspects of their practice. The artists share a common basis of drawing from their immediate environment (local landscapes) which they extend through print, painting and drawing in their studios.
NORTH LIGHT – 9 November 2015
BRIDGET TEMPEST – Print / Film
These two installations explore ways of using film with printmaking. The physical presence of the print in which the materiality of the process is manifest, changes as it becomes scanned data. Using both media the “thing-ness” of the print (permanent) is joined with the “image-as- association” of the film (ephemeral).
Piece 1 Slipstream Film
Duration 10 minutes
Print has evolved as a means of reproducing images and text. As an artist, I respond to the material quality of the surface used to create the image (copper, stone, wood). The unexpected occurrences during the process are also full of creative potential.
Film is light moving in time. It is dependent on apparatus, fleeting, insubstantial, yet all encompassing. It carries photography’s congealed time into the appearance of movement: living time.
The prints are made using print processes and offset etching enhanced with drawing. The film is made in Final Cut Pro.
Poems by Octavia Stocker as response to the film, Octavia is a poet and writer currently writing her second novel.
